Weeeeee!

Sunday we finally got to use the sled that Colin got for Christmas from his Auntie Beth and Uncle Rob...There was only about a 1/2 inch of snow on the ground, but the sled was great! Hey we'll take it, the rate this winter is going we thought we would never get to use it!

No!

That is the new word in our household this week...Colin has decided that at first it was fun to imitate Mommy shaking her finger and singing "no more monkeys jumping on the bed", however this has now changed to this: "Colin do you want to go upstairs?" Colin replies "No"...so funny, it's kind of a drawn out "nooo", but CLEARLY a no...I feel like he is too young to be telling me no...also if anyone has any suggestions he really hates to have his diaper changed these days - any hints out there????? I would love someone to give me the magic secret to changing a really persistant 15 month old!

911!

Yes, I did have to call today...everything is OK, just a bit of a scare! I went to my good friend Gillian's house in North Reading today for a playdate. Everything was going well, kids were playing and Colin was snacking on some Goldfish crackers and cheerios. Well about 20 minutes into our visit he grabbed a goldfish, turned around, and began walking towards Nathan's toys. That's when it happened. I looked to see him gagging and sort of flailing his arms - no sound coming from him. I quickly snatched him up and pounded him on the back, Colin let out a wail after two hard blows on the back, it was a wonderful sound for about 10 seconds when he began choking again. I then tipped him head first into the football hold, head down, and pounded his back again, he sort of wailed again and then more choking. This happened I think three times, he just couldn't get the fish up. At that point I said to my friend Gillian, it's not coming up, what do I do, call 911? She didn't hesitate and immediately called 911 and I kept back blowing. Right as the 911 answered he stopped choking and just cryed and cryed - a wonderful sound...Then I felt silly, he was OK, but the EMT's were on their way... I called my brother (who works in town) and he said even if I called back to cancel they would come anyhow, so we just let them come. They checked his lungs and breathing and gave him the all clear and said to keep an eye on him and call the pediatrician because the goldfish didn't come out (worry about aspiration)...called the pediatrician after I left Gill's house and everything OK...Nathan, Gill's son, thought it was pretty cool having an ambulance come to the house, but poor Gill's neighbors (they all came out to make sure all was OK)...sorry Gill for the fiasco, you were very helpful and calm - love you! Colin screamed as the paramedic listened to him with a stethoscope, but as they were leaving his eyes lit up at the truck with lights(ambulance) that was outside! Anyways, I learned a couple of things today: 1) Never hesitate to call 911 - that's what they are there for 2) Colin will now have snacks seated in his high chair or booster seat (I was going to go with a pureed diet, but thought that was a little much!) 3) Hug your kids very hard and tell them you love them! (oh and I learned that for kids age 1 and above you can do a heimlich (sp?) maneuver with one hand - looks like I need a CPR refresher!) He's now sound asleep in bed after his cousin Casey's 6th birthday party and I think I am going to go give him another kiss goodnight!

He's Back!

What a virus...it took about 5 full days until we finally got the old Colin back - running around the house with the colander on his head, walking around banging the "swifter" thinking he is sweeping, etc! The fever hung on for while at about 99 degrees until about Sunday evening. However, Colin still thinks it OK to wake up at about 3:50 (that's a.m.) thinking we are going to go in there and cuddle with him! Today was a little better so hopefully tonight will go better!

No Strep Throat - Just a Virus!

That is the verdict as of 7:55 a.m. this morning...we ventured off to the doctor's yesterday afternoon after a continued fever, one episode of vomiting, and some extremely intense drooling. I felt so bad for him...Colin wanted absolutely nothing to do with the doctor, especially when she looked into his throat - he turned purple and we almost had another episode of vomit - however all she said was "Wow" at the looks of his throat. She quickly ordered us to sit him up so he wouldn't throw up and swallow it I guess and she got the long q-tips ready for the throat culture. I had a feeling all day long that his it was his throat. So Daddy laid him back down, held his hands, and as Colin let out a wail, she swiped his throat! I think she was convinced it was Strep throat, however the rapid test came back negative as did the preliminary one as well...Colin woke up with a low grade temp. and as of 10:00 it was 98.9 in one ear and 99 in the other, and he is actually talking today, and ate a Gerber cereal bar -so looks like whatever he had is working it's way out of him. I just completely disinfected our house, toys, etc...in the hopes that Mommy and Daddy won't get it! So maybe tonight we'll all get some much needed rest!

2 Hours!

That is about how much sleep I got last night, I think. Colin has had a fever for about 24 hours...not fun! It's so sad...he would sleep for about 1/2 hour and then wake up crying. I would give him his pacifier and blanket, he would roll around for awhile and the same thing would happen - 1/2 hour and awake again crying - poor thing. I hope it's not his ears - my fear of having to have tubes has come back - he has done so well since June, several colds and no ear infections...we'll see! Ryan wants to believe it's just his teeth????? However Mommy doesn't think teething causes a 102.7 degree fever - right? Oh well, he is napping now and hopefully will get some rest - I am off to call the doctor now!

Good Old New England Weather!

What a beautiful day today was! It was just amazing that we spent the early afternoon in shirts only right by the water - it was so nice! We traveled to Newburyport, which isn't that far away, and ate lunch on the boardwalk and then we walked the boardwalk and hit some of the shops downtown. It was great - Colin loved running up and down the boardwalk, looking at the water, but most of all seeing all the dogs out for walks! He would just yell "doooog" at the top of his lungs and point each time he saw one...He is so funny when we do let him out of the carriage to walk if we are out somewhere (even in the front yard)...he loves chase...he loves to start walking and then right when I tell him to go a certain direction, he looks back at me, smiles a very mischievous smile, and starts laughing and running in the opposite direction! Sometimes I think he is 1 going on 4! Hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather and I am sure this time next week I will be writing about a nor'easter about to hit us!

Happy New Year!

Our New Year's was spent with wonderful friends...we headed up to N.H. and spent it at Kelly and Dave's house...Shelby, Michael, and Charlotte were there as well and it was a really great time! The kids played together all evening and Colin went right to bed at his usual time and really didn't make a peep until 7 the next morning...let's just say that was only 3.5 hours after Daddy went to bed! Mommy got an extra 2 hours more than Daddy - ha! Mommy also didn't have any Irish Whiskey! We had a fantastic time and it was really special being able to spend it with such great friends who mean the world to us! Thanks Kelly and Dave for your generosity and hospitality - we love it in Goffstown! Mommy got some great pictures and will post them this week once they are downloaded onto the computer! sorry so late Michael and Shelby! Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2007!
